Deadlines: applications for all of the essay contest, grants, scholarships, and internship opportunities must be emailed by Fall/Dec 20 or Spring/May 20. Applications should include following materials: email letter with heading titled as one of the options below, a brief description (up to 300 words) of what your applying for and why - see option details below, a brief description of how it related to the topic of “Religion and Cities,” attach a resume or CV for all options.

1. One Essay Contest winner will be awarded a scholarship of $500 each year for work by an undergraduate students on Religion, Cities, and Social Justice. Selected students will be invited to work with one of the CSRC board members to revise the paper for a final submission, develop academic mentorship opportunities, and published on the CSRC website.

2. Three Student grants and scholarships of $500 each for commissioned work, conference attendance, or scholarships in recognition of achievements will be awarded per year to help inspire and support future engagements with religion and the city and to help diversify the field.

3. Two Stipendiary Internships are offered per year through (1) Art, Religion & Cities (careers in museums); (2) the Black Church Food Security Network (community organization work); and (3) Housing Justice program with the Public Justice Center and Jews United for Justice programs (law). Internship participants earn $15 per hour up to 100 hours ($1,500).

Though preference will be given to proposals from Morgan students working on religion in Baltimore, proposals by students from any HBCU, TCU, or HSI seeking to further the study of religion and the city more broadly will also be considered. Student grant recipients are chosen by a selection committee consisting of the director and fellow and two members of the local advising committee.
