Art, Religion, & Cities Course: Islamic Arts in Museums

  • Morgan State University (map)

Interested in religion, social justice, and the power of cultural institutions? Do you want to be part of a new initiative on campus that explores the intersections of art, religion and Baltimore city? Come join us as we investigate this critical question: Do museums display Islamic art in ways that encourage divisive conversations around race, citizenship, and community, or can they offer creative ways to recover and reimagine our shared histories? Led by scholars and curators of Islam, religion, art, and material culture, this course explores the display of religious art to engage critical questions of race, justice, and community today, and connects with public conversations that navigate Baltimore’s urban context.
